WHAT IS THE 2018 TASMAZIA INTERNATIONAL MURAL FEST?

International Mural Fest is a truly unique art competition held annually in Sheffield - Town of Murals, in Tasmania, Australia. In 2018, The Tasmazia International Mural Fest begins on April 1 and concludes on April 7.

A total of nine artists will be engaged in a public paint off over 6.5 days. Each artist must complete a 2100mm x 4800mm mural, using the same poem as their mural’s central theme and inspiration. A new poem is selected each year, meaning no two Mural Fests are ever the same. The competition is conducted in Mural Park – Sheffield’s very own outdoor art gallery.

Artists are subjected not only to public scrutiny and time constraints during the paint-off week, but also to the sometimes unpredictable Tasmanian weather! International Mural Fest therefore tests not only artistic skill, but also endurance and tenacity.

At the end of the paint off week, a panel of qualified judges decides the winner of the event’s major prize, The Mural Fest Judge’s Award. During the paint off week, visitors and supporters who come to Mural Park to view the progress are encouraged to vote for their favourite artwork. At the end of the week, the votes are tallied and the artist whose painting receives the most votes is awarded The Mural Fest Visitors Award.

2018 Australian Masters Rowing Championships

Date: Thu 10th - Sun 13th May , 2018

Venue: Lake Barrington

Please note.  Rowing Australia will continue to use the existing masters categories through the 2018 Australian Masters Rowing Championships.  A review and update to bring Australia in line with the new World Rowing categories will be conducted post the 2018 event.

Surrounded by place names such as ‘Paradise’, ‘Promised Land’ and ‘Nowhere Else’ Lake Barrington is a beautiful venue to host the 2018 Australian Masters Rowing Championships. Situated in Northern Tasmania the 20 km long lake is a world class rowing course having hosted the 1990 World Rowing Championships.

Lake Barrington International (LBI) offers rowers a serene and peaceful place in which to compete, no noisy highways, built up areas or houses to distract competitors from the task at hand - to perform to your best.

With four days of fierce competition on water and opportunities to socialise with new and old friends off water and to experience Tasmanian hospitality - what's not to like?

An easy 45 minutes drive from the Spirit of Tasmania ferry terminal in Devonport, or just over an hour from Launceston through the pretty countryside brings you to the sight of impressive Mt Roland and Sheffield, the town of murals. LBI is only 20 minutes away past Tasmazia and the Village of Lower Crackpot.

The area offers a variety of accommodation,( the closest & best of which is AAA Granary Accomm) cafes, restaurants, vineyards, and craft shops. Iconic Cradle Mountain National Park with stunning Dove Lake at its feet is only an hour away and offers walking trails to suit everybody or pick up local products to picnic and enjoy the scenery.

Tasmania in May is cool with daytime temperatures in the mid-high teens but is usually settled with clear days and blue skies. Autumn is a beautiful time of year to road trip around the State, the colours are turning on the trees and the opportunity for fantastic photography abounds. With the major tourist season over there are no crowds and you can enjoy nature at your leisure whether that’s the rugged West Coast or the idyllic East Coast. Add a couple of weeks on to your visit to enjoy our wonderful Island and all it has to offer.

Rowing Tasmania and the Organising Committee of AMRC 2018 welcome you to the best rowing venue in Australia (at least that what we think). We will be working hard to make your Tassie experience a memorable one.
